Welcome, Olin College class of 2014!

Stefan Wolpert, 2010
Hello Admitted Students,
On behalf of the Olin College student body, congratulations on your acceptance to Olin College! Students, staff, and professors all agree you will become an integral part of Olin’s innovative learning community.
“Why Olin?” My personal decision to matriculate at Olin boiled down to a few stand-out factors: Olin’s engineering rigor, opportunities as an undergraduate, and passionate professors. My final deciding factor was that when I compared schools, I always put Olin in a separate category – a separate category that was different and a better fit for me. Olin had, and still has, a great balance of engaging and fun coursework and activities. I’ve played in the pit orchestra of a play, learned to SCUBA dive, built fun and challenging projects, learned in-depth science and engineering principles, and so much more.
Looking at my classmates and the four classes of alumni ahead of me, Olin graduates are earning PhDs, working for large and small companies, starting businesses, attending medical school, touring as professional performers, and doing most anything you might expect an engineer to do...or not to do. Olin’s engineering curriculum is a base for solving difficult problems in virtually any field. There is no set post-graduate path.
As the Class of 2014, you will get to know the sixth graduating class of Olin College. Compared to colleges that were founded during the early years of America’s history, Olin is still in its infancy. However, professors, staff and previous students have built a great college and strong curriculum. Due to numerous factors including size, age, and our mandated mission of innovation, Olin is an ever-changing place that requires your input for continuous improvement. Getting more deeply involved in innovation and change is not required, but is easily accessible and celebrated at Olin. Whether through academics, clubs, campus committees or elsewhere, Olin has many opportunities not found at other institutions to change something old or start something new.
Having met you at Olin’s Candidates Weekend, we know you are exceptional and bound for success. We hope that you’ll come to Olin for great experiences and an excellent education.
Please feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions about Olin or otherwise.
I wish you all the best!
